ADVENTURE LIKE A LOCAL: Arctic to indian ski traverse

Twenty-one mile nordic ski tour through the back country by our brave Sverre L.!

THE HIGHLIGHTS:

Location: Chugach Mountains

Time of Year: Late Winter, Early Spring

Duration: Prepare for a full day!

This is a one-way nordictour from Arctic Valley to Indian Valley (that's the downhill direction).

Snow and river (overflow) conditions change the experience drastically, so check the internet for condition reports. Sometimes it's a relatively quick tour, but when we skied it, the snow was slow so we started in the dark and ended in the dark (bring headlamps!).This is not for a beginner cross-country skier, but I've known intermediate skiers take it on and have a blast. You'll probably want metal-edged fish-scale skis (or something like that) and ski boots that support the ankles.

Recommendations: Prepare for a long day and bring headlamps!
